On this video, I will show you how to fix BCDBOOT error with the following error message: \”Failure when attempting to copy boot files\” when you trying to rebuild Boot Configuration Data (BCD) file in Windows 10, windows 8, windows 7 and windows Vista.
BCD BOOT is a tool used via command prompt (CMD) to rebuild the boot files on a computer to run the Windows operating system especially if the computer failed to start-up normally with BCD blue screen boot loop.
A- How to know whether you have a GPT OR MPR system:
Open CMD
Type DISKPART and hit Enter.
Type LIST DISK and hit enter.
If you see an asterisk under GPT column, then your disk is GPT.
If there is no asterisk, then your disk is MPR.

B- SOLUTIONS:
1. USE CORRECT LETTER FOR WINDOWS PARTITION:
a. Execute this command:
Bootrec /rebuildbcd
a Type NOTEPAD and hit Enter
b. Click “File” tab
c. Select “Open” option
d. Click on “This PC” icon to show all your partitions
e. Determine which letter is the windows partition.
Windows partition usually takes the C or D letter BUT NOT THE X LETTER, and it contains the Windows and Users folders. User folder will contain your account or profile name.
f. Execute this command:
BCDBOOT D:\\WINDOWS
Replace D with the letter of your windows partition.

2. ACTIVATING THE BOOT PARTITION IN MPR OR BIOS-BASED SYSTEMS:
a. Execute the following command:
BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD
b. Type BCDEDIT and hit enter to show the BCD data.
c. Determine which letter is for the boot partition from Device entry.
d. Execute the followings commands:
DISKPART
LIST VOL
SEL VOL 1
(Replace 1 with the volume number of your BOOT partition).
ACTIVE
h. Select windows partition using the following command:
Sel vol 2
(Replace 2 with the volume number of your WINDOWS partition).
i. Type INACTIVE to Deactivate WINDOWS partition.
j. Type EXIT to close Diskpart.
k. Execute the BCDboot command to rebuild the BCD file:
BCDBOOT C:\\WINDOWS
(Replace the C with the letter of your windows partition).

3. SPECIFY THE DEFAULT WINDOWS LANGUAGE AND DISK SCHEME WHETHER IS GPT OR MPR IN THE COMMAND LINE:
a. Type BCDBOOT D:\\Windows command without hitting Enter.
b. Press shift+f10 keys to open another command prompt window.
c. Execute the following command to know the default system language:
DISM /IMAGE:D:\\ /GET-INTL
d. In my case, the default language is the United Kingdom English, so I will add en-GB to the command line after L option as shown.
BCDBOOT D:\\Windows /L en-GB
e. In the second CMD window, Type DISKPART and hit Enter
f. Type LIST DISK and hit Enter.
g. If you have a GPT system, add /F UEFI to the command line.
BCDBOOT D:\\Windows /L en-GB /F UEFI
h. In rare cases, you may need to add ALL after /F option to copy both BIOS and UEFI boot files:
BCDBOOT D:\\Windows /L en-GB /F ALL
i. The final form of command line will be as following:
BCDBOOT D:\\Windows /L en-GB /F BIOS /S C:

4. REBUILD BCD MANUALLY.
a. Type Bootrec /rebuildbcd
b. Make a backup copy for old BCD:
bcdedit /export C:\\BCDbackaup
c. Type the following command to remove the hidden, system attributes and read-only properties from the BCD file:
Attrib C:\\boot\\bcd -h -s -r
d. Rename or delete the old BCD file using one of the following commands but not both:
ren c:\\boot\\bcd bcd.old
del c:\\boot\\bcd
e. Type Bootrec /rebuildbcd and hit Enter
f. Type Yes to add the windows installation configuration to boot list.

Commands used to rebuild BCD in the GPT system:
DISKPART
LIST DISK
LIST VOL
SEL VOL 4
\”Replace 4 with the number of EFI partition in your PC\”
ASSIGN LETTER=V:
EXIT
Dir /a /b /s V:
V:\\EFI\\Microsoft\\Boot\\BCD
If you see file called WinRE.WIM, then the V is the Recovery partition.
Press Shift + F12 keys to open another CMD window.
Bootrec /rebuildbcd
bcdedit /export C:\\ BCD.backup
Attrib V:\\EFI\\Microsoft\\Boot\\BCD -h -s –r
del V:\\EFI\\Microsoft\\Boot\\BCD
BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD
Close the command prompt then click on Continue button to restart PC to Windows operating system.
